The week in dogs, fetched for you
Good morning, dog lover.
Mid-September is that little stretch where nobody seems quite ready
to call it fall yet. The afternoons still feel like summer, the light
is turning softer, and mornings are beginning to ask for an extra
layer. Meanwhile, the dogs have noticed exactly none of this, except
perhaps that the walks are getting nicer.

Ten minutes later, your dog is still investigating the same patch of grass like there’s a case to solve. So do you let them take their time — or eventually say “let’s go”? The Heartwarmer A stray dog waited for him after missions. Months later, he was the one waiting. Jeremy Ferris met Sadie while deployed at a U.S. military outpost in Jordan. Before long, the young stray had developed a routine: whenever he returned from a mission, she would be there waiting. Eventually, Ferris started working on a plan to bring her home. But getting Sadie from Jordan to Connecticut would take months, and leave the two of them separated much longer than expected.

Living with a dog has a funny way of changing your sense of pace. Sometimes the plan is to keep moving. Sometimes they decide a patch of grass deserves another minute. And every now and then, slowing down turns out to be the better part of the day.
