After three days missing, a black pug named Shadow was finally found alive — trapped nearly 20 feet underground inside a narrow construction hole in Marin County, California.
Firefighters were called to a construction site in Lagunitas on Monday evening after someone discovered the missing dog at the bottom of a hole roughly 20 feet deep and only 3 to 4 feet wide, according to KTVU FOX 2.
Despite spending three days underground, Shadow was alive when rescue crews arrived.

Getting Shadow Back Home
Reaching Shadow wasn't as simple as lowering a rope.
Because of the depth and narrow width of the hole, firefighters had to use specialized technical rescue techniques designed for confined spaces. Marin County Fire crews worked alongside search-and-rescue personnel to carefully reach the frightened pug and bring him safely back to the surface.
The department later shared that the rescue highlighted how technical rescue training can make a life-saving difference—not only for people, but for animals too.
A Happy Ending After Three Long Days
For Shadow's family, the rescue brought an emotional end to three days of uncertainty.
Anyone who's ever had a dog go missing knows how quickly hope can turn into fear.
Thankfully, Shadow's story ended exactly the way we were all hoping it would: safe, healthy, and finally back home.
