Good morning, dog lover.
This week, we’re finding out how one weekend can change a shelter dog’s life, what may be happening inside your dog’s brain when they resist temptation, and why two very different rescue dogs only needed one thing: a home that had room for both.
The Lead Think you can’t foster a dog? You might only need a weekend. A lot of people rule out fostering because they picture weeks or months of commitment. But some shelters are offering something much shorter. In some programs, a shelter dog can leave on Friday, spend a few days in a real home, and return after the weekend — with those few days revealing far more than you might expect.

The Heartwarmer These two rescue dogs needed one home. Then they met Chris Evans. Researchers recorded the brain activity of awake family dogs while they had to wait for something they wanted instead of taking it right away. When the dogs resisted temptation, their brains changed in a surprisingly specific way — one that resembles a pattern scientists already know from humans.
