Good morning, dog lover.
A dog-friendly hotel doesn’t always mean a dog-friendly vacation, a familiar face can end a 250-day wait, and apparently our dogs may be studying us more closely than we think. This week, we’re looking at what changes when you see the world a little more from their side.
The Lead Your hotel says “pet-friendly.” Your vacation might tell a different story. You checked the hotel, confirmed dogs are welcome and booked the room. It feels like the trip is officially dog-friendly. But there’s another part of the trip that matters just as much — and it’s surprisingly easy to overlook until you’re already there.

Dog Science Your dog is watching your face. Their brain may be noticing more than we thought. Researchers put awake family dogs inside an MRI scanner and showed them unfamiliar human faces expressing happiness, anger, fear and sadness. Their brains didn’t simply sort those faces into “good” and “bad.” One expression in particular produced a surprisingly distinct pattern.

The Heartwarmer He waited 250 days. Then someone recognized his face. At the shelter, everyone knew him as Flash — a staff favorite who had spent months waiting for the right person to notice him.
